Australian Formula Ford Series to be decided this weekend

The final round of the Australian Formula Ford Series will be contested at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park circuit this weekend as part of the Shannons Nationals event.

A strong grid of 18 cars is expected to participate and if other rounds are anything to go by, the racing should be fierce.

Cameron Hill is the man to beat in the Formula Ford class. With a healthy 53 point lead to second place Christian Morina, he will be a hard man to beat coming into this round off some strong performances.

The battle for the minor places is alive with Christian Morina leading Luis Leeds by a mere point.

The Formula Ford 1600 class promises to be a closely contested affair with all positions up for grabs.

National series regular, Jimmy Bailey currently holds a 3 point lead from experienced driver Luke Ellery with Cameron Walters sharing the same points as Ellery.

Leanne Tander returns to national series racing after competing in selected rounds throughout the year and is sure to be running up the front.

Formula Four regular, Jimmy Vernon makes a welcome return to the Formula Ford grid to test his skills and is sure to use his extensive experience racing at the Wakefield track to his advantage.

Aiming to spoil the party in the Formula Ford 1600 class is local racer and social media star, Dan Holihan. An extensive racing campaign in 2015 has seen Dan improve to now be considered a threat for podium positions.

“We have been amazed at the depth of talent in the grid this year and are buoyed by the strong grids we have managed to amass throughout the year. These large grids are providing the best development environment for our drivers who are moving on and achieving great results in other categories.”, said series coordinator Phi Marrinon.

The Australian Formula Ford Series is the undisputed proving ground for the next generation of racing stars and the three race programme this weekend at Wakefield will no doubt showcase Australia’s best racing talent.

Live Streaming of Sundays running will be available via the Shannons Nationals website for those that cannot make it to the event.
