Weekend Wrap: Cameron Hill dominates once again
Cameron Hill continues to lead the Australian Formula Ford Championship on completion of Round 5 at Queensland Raceway. Driving a self-prepared Mygale SJ10a, Hill walked away from the weekend with two more race wins and a pole position. Hill’s display backs up his similar performances at the previous rounds in Sydney and Winton. “The car was quick from the outset but it all came down to racecraft,” Hill said. “I enjoyed being back in the battle and cannot thank my dad enough for helping prepare my car”. Hill is a privateer and runs his race team from Queanbeyan in the ACT. When asked where he would like to be in the future Hill said, “the dream would be to race IndyCar in America but I’m also keeping my options open here and looking at V8 Supercars.” It was not an easy win for Hill with plenty of pressure from Luis Leeds (DREAM Motorsport Mygale SJ13A) in races two and three. Leeds broke Hill’s winning steak by finishing first in Race 1 in Ipswich. Leeds also gave Hill a challenge in Race 2, with the lead changing multiple times between the pair. Hill only won the race by the nose of his car. Race three saw Leeds keep the race winner’s pace, however he could not get past Hill when it counted.
Leeds walks away maintaining third in the championship. William Brown (Cars Galore/Race Academey MygaleSJ12) walked away from the weekend with two third place finishes. Brown kept Leeds and Hill’s pace throughout Races 2 and 3, but couldn’t find a way through. The Sonic Racing MygaleSJ12 of Christian Morina had a consistent weekend with one third and two fifth places. Morina is currently sitting second in the points. Jake Spencer had a horrible weekend, starting Race 1 from pit-lane, before climbing up the field to finish fourth in Race 2. However, in Race 3 he was caught up in an early race incident with Thomas Maxwell and finished back in 10th. Cameron Walters, meanwhile, was the best of the Kent class drivers across the weekend.
