Spectrum driver KOBI WILLIAMS has taken out round honours amongst tough competition, during ROUND 2 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, at Morgan Park in Queensland.
Fine and sunny conditions across all three days meant the pace was hot right from the outset and it was the number 94 of Spectrum driver, and current championship leader, KOBI WILLIAMS who set the pace, taking a commanding POLE position on Saturday.

However, a suspension failure at the fast and flowing circuit saw front runner LACHLAN EVENNETT relegated to the rear of the field, meaning a solid challenge lay ahead for the Brett Francis Racing driver.

RACE 1
WILLIAMS grabbed the lead early and would go on to dominate in Race 1, never headed from the outset in the 15 lap race, to take a commanding victory over JOE FAWCETT.

A red flag interrupted the race, due to incidents for firstly, Kent runner TIM HAMILTON and then the Duractec of HUNTER SALVATORE, who both walked away ok.
LACHLAN MINEEFF and JAMIE ROWE also fought hard mid pack all race, the number 15 of MINEEFF managing to get home by a mere 8 tenths of a second in the end.
And a truly inspired drive by EVENNETT also saw him bounce back, as he grabbed the final spot on the podium, meaning a much better starting position for Race 2.

RACE 2
On Sunday morning, WILLIAMS again came out punching, taking an early lead and despite further competition from FAWCETT and EVENENTT, in the end the #94 ACMF Finance/Siclids Spectrum of WILLIAMS would see more championship points banked.

The fight for second was tight all race with FAWCETT just managing to hold off a confident EVENNETT, with a number of position changes all race between the two.

The mid pack was where things really began to heat up with JAMIE ROWE, LACHLAN MINEEFF, GIUSEPPE IMBROGNO, TOBY McCORMACK, ASHTON GEALY and HUNTER SLVATORE all fighting - and at one stage - all within a second - in the 6 car group.

A lock up by SALVATORE into the fast turn 1, allowed GEALY to jump up and grab that spot and in the end IMBROGNO managed to hold off MINEEFF by a mere 9 one hundreds of a second. TOBY McCORMACK also, only 2 tenths of a second back in seventh.

RACE 3:
Race 3 on Sunday afternoon again saw the top three go at it from the outset, but unlike the first two races, this time FAWCETT saw his chance and grabbed the lead on the opening lap over EVENNETT and WILLIAMS.

New Zealander TOBY MCCORMACK also found his feet, surging up to 5th after starting 7th, swapping places with MINEEFF all race.
IMBROGNO improved even more, eventually coming home in 4th, a solid result for the Spectrum driver.

It was no easy run for the championship leader either, WILLIAMS with a very lucky escape managing to come home and finish despite a mid race brush with FAWCETT which saw him momentarily head towards to grass infield.
In the end, EVENNETT proved too strong and claimed victory , a stunning result after the qualifying dramas earlier in the weekend meant he had to fight his way through the field.

In the Kent class, it was all smiles for ANDREW TORTI as he cruised to a '4 from 4' weekend, nailing victories across all 4 Kent races.

DRIVER FOCUS HARD CHARGER AWARD
The DRIVER FOCUS HARD CHARGER AWARD was taken out by the number 76 of Anglo Motorsport driver ASHTON GEALY.
In awarding the prize, FFA National Category Manager Jack Atley said:
‘to me, there is a moment in every driver's career when something clicks and you realise that you are capable and can compete at this level and it happened for Gealy in race two.
Other notable efforts were by Lachlan Evennett who came from the back of the field and Hunter Salvatore who bounced back well after a scare in Race 1.
It was such close and competitive racing all weekend by the whole field and there are many that were deserving of the award, but race 2 was a standout and the courage and skill shown by all drivers who raced hard, yet clean and fair was a pleasure to watch.
We felt Ashton took a major step forward this weekend, in only his first year of racing, and therefore takes out the Hard Charger award, in a field where many were worthy of it”.

The Formula Ford Australia championship wishes to extend its thanks to all involved at Morgan Park Raceway for providing a stunning weekend of racing and - along with our partners - we look forward to seeing everyone at Sydney Motorsport Park on 25 - 26 July for ROUND 3
