Loiacono Sweeps the Weekend at Morgan Park
With a full day of practice on Friday and three races each for the Australian Formula Ford Series and Queensland Formula Ford Championship on Saturday and Sunday, there was no shortage of Formula Ford action at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend.
The weekend (14 - 16 June) marked Round 4 of the Australian Formula Ford Series. Heading into Race 3, Liam Loiacono was two for two and looking to make it a hat-trick on the same weekend he took home both his first Tyres & More Pole Award and first race win. Starting Sunday’s final race from pole position, the #43 BF Racing Mygale driver again converted his pole position start into a race win.
A solid drive in both Races 2 and 3 on Sunday saw Eddie Beswick (#30 Synergy Motorsport Spectrum) claim the round second place honours, with Kobi Williams (#94 Borland Racing Spectrum) in third place for the round.
Both Races 2 and 3 saw a Safety Car period each. A racing incident in Race 1 saw contact between Lachlan Strickland (#47 CHE Racing Team Mygale) and Logan Eveleigh (#91 Zero7 Motorsport Mygale), with Strickland stuck out in the grass, triggering a local yellow. The race continued under local yellow conditions until the Safety Car was called to recover the #47. In Race 3, the Safety Car was again called when an oil fire struck down the #7 Lobko Motorsport Mygale of Zak Lobko. With Lobko safely out of the car, racing resumed for the second two-lap dash of the day when the Safety Car lights went out.

Cody Maynes-Rutty picked up his second Focus Driver Performance Hard Charger Award this weekend. The #69 Synergy Motorsport/CMR Motorsport Spectrum racer drove back from a punctured tyre in Race 1 on Saturday to charge through the field from seventh to second place in Race 3 at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend.
With half the season now complete, there’s still plenty to play for in the championship as we head to the next round at the Supercars NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint at Symmons Plains Raceway across 16 - 18 August. A full championship points update will soon be available on www.formulaford.org.au.

Round winner: Liam Loiacono #43 BF Racing Mygale
“This weekend was my first race win and first pole. I couldn’t have done it without Brett and Benji from BF Racing or without my mum and dad supporting me and my sisters coming out to the track as well – I know how much they hate it, so it’s good to have them out.
“To Mitch as well, he’s supported me all weekend as well.”
Round second-placegetter: Eddie Beswick #30 Synergy Motorsport Spectrum
“The weekend was pretty good. Thanks to Sean and Justin from Synergy Motorsport for putting the hard work in. We were quick but probably not quite quick enough to beat Liam.
“A small bit of damage in the last race probably didn’t help so we didn’t bring home the result we quite wanted. So a big thanks to them and also to mum and dad and my grandparents for all their support and to Formula Ford for putting on another great round.”
Round third-placegetter: Kobi Williams #94 Borland Racing Spectrum
“It’s good to get another round podium. We struggled a little bit with the car setup on the track not having been here in a while but we worked hard and got there in the end. A big thanks to dad and Adam and the crew for all their help and to my sponsors ACMF Finance and SicLids for all their help.”
