Mouzouris extends championship lead at Wakefield!

2019 Australian Formula Ford Championship contender Angelo Mouzouris has established a commanding advantage after winning the penultimate round of the Championship at Wakefield Park Raceway. Mouzouris has extended his championship lead to 28 points ahead of the season finale at Phillip Island at the end of the month. "It's been a mega weekend, solid points collected for the weekend", said Mouzouris at the end of race three. Cody Burcher and Zac Soutar completed the round podium, after Bucher claimed his maiden Australian Formula Ford win in Saturday's race one. "I couldn't really ask for a better weekend. We've come leaps and bounce from last year, and it's great to be running at the front consistently", said Burcher. On Saturday, Callum Hedge took his second Freem Racewear Pole Position Award for 2019, leading a 1-2 lockout for Sonic Motor Racing Services. Hedge was accompanied by team-mate Angelo Mouzouris on the front row for race 1, with Synergy Motorsport's Cody Burcher qualifying third. Following an exciting tussle with Hedge and Mouzouris, Burcher broke through to claim his maiden Australian Formula Ford win. The Spectrum driver crossed the line 1.4 seconds clear of the Sonic-Mygale duo. Angelo Mouzouris bounced back to dominate race two on Sunday morning, maintaining the lead from start to finish, a true textbook race for the Victorian. The Safety Car was deployed after Jake Donaldson suffered a brake disc failure which caused his car to leave the circuit at turn 2, narrowly missing the handful of cars that were in front of him. Zac Soutar and Cody Burcher completed the podium for race two, this podium keeping Soutar within reach of the title. Race three was a carbon copy of the previous race for Mouzouris, who once again leveraged his strength on cold tyres to stay out of striking distance. Mouzouris took the lead at the start and controlled the race to win by 1.3 seconds ahead of Cody Burcher and a hard-charging Tom Sargent. Jake Donaldson and Zach Bates had a coming together at the beginning of the race, with Donaldson receiving the only penalty of the weekend for his part in the incident. An early Safety Car was deployed to recover Bates' stranded Mygale from turn 1. CHE Racing's Lachlan Mineeff stormed from the rear of the field after a high-speed excursion into the gravel at turn 1 on the opening race of the weekend. Mineeff did an excellent job on a tight racetrack to finish race three in 6th position, after passing more than 20 cars over the three races. Thanks to his determined performance, Mineeff received the CHI Hard Charger Award for the weekend. It was a strong weekend for rookie Spencer Ackermann, who raced at Wakefield Park for the first time. The Mygale privateer finished all three races in the top ten, racing hard against the National regulars and gaining experience ahead of the last round of the championship. Zac Soutar remains in second position in the championship, keeping the 2019 Australian Formula Ford Championship wide open with only one round remaining. "Overall pretty happy. Nice to get a podium and we'll come back stronger at Phillip Island," said Soutar at the end of the weekend. This year our Championship finale will be held at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on September 28th-29th, a fast racetrack which has consistently delivered unexpected results. Our final round of the year will feature another healthy field of cars, again joining the Victorian Formula Ford Championship.
