Sonic dominates qualifying at Winton SuperSprint

New Zealander Callum Hedge has scored his maiden pole position at Round 3 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, supporting the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at the Winton Supersprint.

The 15-year old lead home a team quadfecta as the Sonic Motor Racing Services squad owned the first two rows of the grid. Angelo Mouzouris, Courtney Prince and rookie Jay Hanson all scored personal-best qualifying results in second, third and fourth respectively.

Round 2 winner Zac Soutar put his BF Racing/Team Soutar Mygale in fifth, ahead of the Spectrum quartet of Cody Burcher, Cody Donald, Liam McLellan and Jake Donaldson, with Victorian state series racer Ben D’Alia rounding out the top ten in another Spectrum.

Series leader Thomas Sargent could only manage 11th on the grid, with fellow CHE Racing Team driver Lachlan Mineeff in 13th.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship returns to the track for Race 1 on Saturday at 12:05pm, followed by Race 2 and 3 on Sunday. QUOTES 1st, Callum Hedge #5 - Sonic Motor Racing Services "I’m really happy to get my first pole position in the Australian Formula Ford Championship, it’s good to finally get that one ticked off but hopefully we can carry that form into the three races this weekend," said Hedge.

"Winton is our home test track so we have plenty of experience with adapting to the changing track conditions and that really played into our favour today.

"Our ultimate goal for Team Sonic is to finish 1-2-3-4 again in the races, but the competition is so tough in this series so we’ll have to lift our game again to stay in front." 2nd, Angelo Mouzouris #2 - Sonic Motor Racing Services “I put a lap together as best I could. I didn’t maximise the lap and lost out by a tenth in the end, but it’s the best qualifying result i’ve had in the national championship so we’ve got a great package for the upcoming races,” said Mouzouris.

“Sonic Motor Racing Services put in so much effort behind the scenes, so we’re really happy with a great start for the team, but we’re already focussed on delivering a result in the races.” 3rd, Courtney Prince #3 - Sonic Motor Racing Services “I’m really happy to qualify third ahead of a big weekend in front of the Supercars Championship,” said Prince.

“It’s my best qualifying result in the national championship so hopefully we can maintain this position and move forward in the races.”
