Hill sweeps national series round 4!

Cameron Hill and his Mygale SJ10A were untouchable at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Cameron Hill has consolidated his 2015 Australian Formula Ford Series lead with a clean-sweep of round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park. Driving a self-prepared Mygale SJ10, Hill scored maximum points for the round with pole position and three lights-to-flag race victories. That made it six wins on the trot following a similar display in round 3 at Winton Raceway.

The ACT driver now leads the series by 32 points, a buffer of more than a race win over his nearest rival. “I can’t thank everyone enough,” Hill said. “I’ve got great support from the team and my family – we’re all working really well together and it showed this weekend." Asked about his title chances with two rounds remaining, Hill said it was too early to think about what might happen. “We’ll treat the next rounds the same as the others. The car’s good and we’ve found pretty good form, so everything is in place for strong results.” While Hill spent the weekend out in front, the battle for the minor positions was fierce in all three races with Luis Leeds (DREAM Motorsport Mygale SJ13A) and Christian Morina (Sonic Motor Racing Services Mygale SJ12) completing the podium. In race 1 Morina and Jake Spencer (Mygale SJ10) finished second and third, with Leeds in fourth ahead of a fantastic battle between Mitch Martin (Spectrum 014), NSW Championship leader Andrew Kahl (Synergy Motorsport Spectrum 014), and Thomas Maxwell (Sonic Motor Racing Services Mygale SJ13). With Spencer out of race 2 on the second lap after his car's differential failed, the runner-up podium position went to Leeds, who passed Morina into Turn 2 on lap 8. Another NSW Championship contender, Luke King (Mygale SJ09), came from eighth starting position to finish fourth, holding out Kahl, Maxwell and Martin. In Race 3 Leeds again overtook the faster-starting Morina for second spot on the podium. Victorian Luke Ellery (Ellery Motorsport Enterprises Spectrum 06B) extended his lead in the FF1600 class with three race victories over NSW driver Cameron Walters (Walters Racing/Synergy Motorsport Mygale SJ07) and Victorian Jimmy Bailey (Spectrum 06B).

Ellery now leads Bailey by 33 points in the class for Kent-engined cars. Round five of the Australian Formula Ford Series will be at Queensland Raceway on August 7-9.
