A stellar result for BRD in Queensland

Borland Racing Developments James ‘Jimmy’ Golding has strengthened his lead in the 2014 Australian Formula Ford Series following a strong weekend in Round 3 at Queensland Raceway.

Factory Spectrum teammate Tom Grech meanwhile achieved a personal best result of sixth as he continues to make impressive gains in his maiden full-time national campaign.

Entering the weekend among the favourites to claim victory, Golding faced stern competition from Hamish Hardeman and Nick Rowe, along with Queenslander and main championship rival Jordan Lloyd out to exploit his local knowledge of the Ipswich circuit.

Qualifying 2nd for Saturday’s 14-lap opener, Golding stormed to the head of the field to lead the first quarter of the race. Although finishing fourth, it was clear he had race winning form in his Gippsland Body Builders supported Spectrum 014.

Keeping clear of his colliding rivals to finish second in Race 2, Golding set himself up for a barn storming finale in Race 3 starting from the front row.

With a minor set up change giving an increase in pace, Golding surged to the lead on Lap 3 where he remained as a Safety Car was called. Racing resumed on Lap 7 of 10 where Golding was able to pull away from his rivals to record his fourth race win of 2014.

A consistent weekend, coupled with Race 3 victory earned Golding 48 series points, making him series leader heading into Round 4 of the Australian Formula Ford Series at Wakefield Park Motor Raceway, October 17 – 19.

On the other side of the garage, Grech impressed as he continues to familiarise himself with National competition.

With a top finish of sixth in the 14-lap Race 1, Grech kept a clean set of heels in his Bracken backed Spectrum 011C to finish seventh in both Sunday races, an encouraging result.

With building momentum, Grech will be out to better his personal best at the next round in Goulburn in October.
