2014 Formula Ford Series Grows

The Formula Ford Association has announced an expansion of the 2014 Australian Formula Ford Series calendar with an additional round as part of the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals.

Formula Ford will now join other racing categories at Sydney Motorsport Park between the 31 October and 2 November. This round will represent the fifth round in the 2014 National Formula Ford Series.

“The Formula Ford Association was always open to expanding the number of rounds for the 2014 series as long as it was supported by the racing community. Since announcing the new series we have been overwhelmed with support from racers so did not hesitate when the opportunity arose to participate on the Shannons Nationals bill”, said FFA chairman John Van Leeuwen.

The 2014 Australian Formula Ford Series marks a landmark change in the future of Formula Ford in Australia and firmly positions it as the premier development category for up and coming talent.

“Formula Ford is a proven development ground for professional drivers and builds the bridge for young drivers between go karts and car racing. Juniors have the ability to race at state level events in all states to gain experience before moving to national level racing. There is no other junior driver category that offers this. Not only does this provide a cost effective pathway for the development of drivers but the great educational stepping stones to develop driver skill rather than having to take the costly “throw them in the deep end” approach that other categories profess”, says Van Leeuwen.

The 2014 Australian Formula Ford Series will be contested over 6 rounds for both Formula Ford (Fiesta) and Formula Ford 1600 (Kent) powered cars between April and November.

5 rounds will be held as part of the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals with the final round at the Island Magic event at Phillip Island.

Round 1 - 25-27 April - Mallala Motorsport Park Round 2 - 13-15 June - Winton Motor Raceway Round 3 - 8-10 August - Queensland Raceway Round 4 - 17-19 October - Wakefield Park Motor Raceway

Round 5 – 31 October - 2 November - Sydney Motorsport Park Round 6 - 29-30 November - Phillip Island

Formula Ford is alive and well in Australia and continues to provide junior drivers with a pathway to a professional career both here and abroad.
