Jayden Ojeda to contest 2016 Australian Formula Ford Series

Jayden Ojeda has been confirmed to lead the Spectrum works team assault on the 2016 Australian Formula Ford Series. The 16-year-old from Claremont Meadows, NSW, who was recently awarded the News Local Junior Sports Star trophy in Penrith for his Formula Ford efforts in 2015, will pilot a Spectrum 014 alongside FF stalwart Paul Zsidy. A healthy 19-car grid has been confirmed for this weekend’s opening round of the Australian Formula Ford Series at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne. The impressive field includes proven Formula Ford front-runners such as Leanne Tander, who has made an off-season switch to Sonic, local hero Adrian Lazzaro, and Ben Reichstein – who will make the trip all the way down from the Northern Territory. This weekend’s Phillip Island Classic marks the opening race meeting of the year for the Historic Formula Fords – and what a cracker it is shaping up to be. The Island’s Classic has quickly become a truly international affair for Formula Ford, and with 54 cars entered for 2016 the grid will stretch almost as far as some of the competitors have travelled. Contract extended for Formula Ford Association and Road To Indy alliance

The alliance between the Australian Formula Ford Series and the world renowned Mazda Road to Indy ladder system in the US has been extended by a further two years beyond 2017. Already two years into a three year agreement, both parties were happy with the relationship and the outcomes it has produced to warrant an extension on the agreement which now runs to the end of the 2019 season. The alliance offers the winner of the Australian Formula Ford Series a test in a USF2000 car as well as a financial incentive to compete in this first rung of the Mazda Road to Indy Series.
